Alberta Bill 30: OH&S and WCB get A Facelift
Some pretty big changes are coming in 2018 with the introduction of Bill 30.
Significant changes to OH&S and WCB legislation are coming by mid-2018. Many will impact small and medium sized businesses, as they will be expected to provide similar safety measures to those offered by bigger industries like oil and gas or industrial construction.
Some key items:
-businesses with more than 15 workers on a site for over 90 days will require a designated safety representative;
-businesses with more than 20 workers for over 90 days will require a representative and a Joint Health and Safety Committee;
-any business with more than 20 workers will require a written and audited safety program;
-smaller employers will require a written and documented hazard assessment program that involves the workers.
There are several other changes to be aware of, a summary can be found here.
That is a lot to unpack.
